This is a type of payment where a small amount of payment is made in order to acknowledge that one does owe money on some kind of substantial debt. This is used in the event that a person is dealing with a large amount of debt to an agency. A debt advice agency might suggest this as a means of sending a message to a creditor that one does owe money but one needs help with negotiating a settlement. The token payment may be better if it is higher in value.
